This Hampi Badami heritage tour is a private five-day, four-night trip in Karnataka. You stay two nights in Hampi for the Vijayanagara ruins, then two nights in Badami for its rock-cut caves, Aihole and the UNESCO-listed temples of Pattadakal. The trip starts and ends at Hubballi Airport and suits history lovers who can walk on uneven ground; October to February is the cooler season.

Arrive in Hubballi and drive to Hampi
- Meet your driver at Hubballi Airport
- Drive east to Hampi, roughly 160 km
- Check in and rest after the road
- If light remains, a short walk towards Hampi Bazaar and the Virupaksha Temple gopuram

Hampi: Vittala stone chariot, Lotus Mahal and Hemakuta Hill
- Morning at the Vittala complex to see the stone chariot and the pillared halls
- Walk the royal centre with the Lotus Mahal, the elephant stables and the Hazara Rama Temple
- Return to the hotel for the hot hours
- Late afternoon on Hemakuta Hill and at the Virupaksha Temple, a working place of worship
- Matanga Hill at sunrise is an option for an earlier start

Hampi to Badami and the cave temples
- Morning drive of about 140 km from Hampi to Badami
- Check in and lunch
- Afternoon at the four rock-cut cave temples cut into the red sandstone cliff
- See the 18-armed Nataraja in Cave 1 and the Jain Cave 4

Pattadakal and Aihole temples
- Drive about 22 km to the UNESCO-listed temple group at Pattadakal on the Malaprabha River
- Compare the Virupaksha Temple of around 740 CE with the other shrines in the group
- Continue to Aihole, about 10 km on
- Walk past the Durga Temple, the Lad Khan Temple and the Meguti Jain Temple on its hill
- Return to Badami in the evening
Agastya Lake, Bhutanatha temples and departure
- Early walk beside Agastya Lake to the Bhutanatha temples
- Badami fort or the archaeological museum if your flight time allows
- Drive about 105 km to Hubballi Airport for your flight
